Garbage disposal: BBMP, contractors pass the muck!

Garbage disposal: BBMP, contractors pass the muck!
DH News Service Bangalore:
BBMP officials and solid waste management contractors are blaming each other for not clearing the garbage in Bangalore. While officials alleged contractors are not clearing garbage though there are ample dumping yards, the latter said officials are making false claims.

In a release, the Palike said the contractors are refusing to clear garbage as they are disappointed with the Palike for slapping fine on contractors who did not clear garbage properly.

The Palike said it has made arrangements for disposal of garbage in Mavallipura and other dumping yards and many trucks disposed of garbage in the designated places.

However, contractors’ association general secretary S N Balasubramani termed the Palike’s claim absolutely “false”. “Not even a single truck has moved so far. The Palike has absolutely failed to address the problem properly and all 293 trucks have remained immobile for the last three days,” he said.

Action

On BBMP’s claim that contractors are not clearing garbage as they are disappointed with the Palike’s action of penalising, Mr Balasubramani said, “They are making such allegations only to escape from their responsibilities. Penalising the guilty are routine things.

We are not worried nor disappointed with that. If they have found enough dumping yards, let them come out with details of dumping yards allotted to each contractor. They can take action against us if we fail to dump garbage in the designated yards. Instead of doing that, why they are making false claims?”
