BANGALORE: The Garden City, relived its once-famous tag as the ‘AC City’ on Thursday night when the nature switched on its AC. People did not have to speed up the fans or air-conditioners, rather, enjoyed the amazingly cool natural ambience after a long time.
The Bangalore meteorological department recorded a maximum temperature of 29.5ø C and a minimum temperature of 22.5ø C on Thursday, whereas the usual temperature was around 33.9ø C. The meteorological department recorded a temperature of 30ø C on Friday morning.
Officials from the met department said that the reason for the dip in temperature was the disturbance in the Bay of Bengal.
“The city experienced a cloudy weather because of the turf in the Bay of Bengal. There is a depression in the Bay of Bengal which is drifting towards the north,” officials said.
The officials added that a pleasant atmosphere is likely to continue for a few more days. “The reason for it is the topographical location of the city. Since the city of Bangalore is located on a plateau, the high altitude gives the City a pleasant climate,” added the official.
The official, however, asserted that the city-met department had not recorded any traces of rainfall, but the temperature was still cool.
Director of meteorological department GS Vijaya Raghavan told this paper that another reason for the weather being cool was because it had received early summer showers. He added that the phenomenon is likely to continue for a couple of more days.
Bangaloreans opined that the City’s weather changed immediately. “It was very hot during the day, but it was cool during late evening hours and was a real AC City. It was a relief from the usual hot weather,” said Dinesh K, a businessman.
Sheela D, a housewife added that the sudden change in weather is welcome.
“It seemed like it will rain any minute, but did not. The children also were very pleased to play outdoors. There was no need to switch-on the fan, rather open the window and enjoy the natural AC atmosphere,” she added.
