Bangalore: Henceforth, all pending applications for layout and building plan sanctions, and land conversions in Bangalore metropolitan region (BMR) will be processed along with fresh ones — that comply with the interim masterplan — by local planning authorities.
The interim masterplan for five towns in BMR region covering 2,600 sq km — Anekal, Hoskote, Kanakapura, Nelamangala and Magadi — has been notified. The BMRDA has displayed the draft plan for public viewing from April 5 to April 20 at its office on Ali Askar Road and offices of town planning. It has called for suggestions or objections from the public.
The masterplan has been proposed up to 2021. Currently, the population in the region is 8 lakh and by 2021 it is expected to grow up to 30 lakh. “Keeping this in mind, we have drawn maps for the growth and development of this region.
The maps of masterplan for five towns will be displayed during office hours. All suggestions and objections should reach us within 15 days,’’ BMRDA commissioner Sudhir Krishna said on Friday.
About draft plan
The masterplan has retained 73 per cent of the area as agricultural zone, leaving open 27 per cent for development. In the areas opened for development, 34 per cent is reserved for housing, 30 per cent is industrial purposes, 16 per cent for parks, 11 per cent for transport, 4.5 per cent for public utility and another 4.5 per cent for commercial development.
Authorities to issue sanctions
The BMRDA has decentralised the process of sanctions by transferring the powers to local planning areas. “Local planning authorities were supposed to draw plans for their areas. Since it was not done, the BMRDA had to do it following a government order.
However, now sanctions of developmental activities in the BMR regions vests with the jurisdictional authority of Anekal, Hoskote, Kanakapura, Nelamangala and Magadi.
Pick your copy
BMRDA has published the interim masterplan for public display and the copies are available for sale. If authorities run out of copies, buyers can place the order and copies will be made available to them within two days. ovt notifies masterplan
