BANGALORE: Traffic police have promised the travelling public that the work of Namma Metro, which will begin on MG Road on Sunday, will not affect the traffic flow for now.

‘‘The traffic on MG Road will not be interrupted due to Metro works. M G Road will remain a two-way road, barricading only the auto richshaw lane for the metro works,’’ said DCP M A Saleem.

But it is a breather for only two weeks. M A Saleem said, ‘‘As soon as the work begin at the Brigade Road Junction, there will be drastic traffic diversions. Buses plying from Shivajinagar towards Austin Town will also be diverted but the bus stops will be not be shifted.’’

Talking about the Metro work on M G Road and Old Madras Road, Managing Director of BMRCL, V Madhu said, ‘‘The pile testing will be done on M G Road and also near the Isolation Hospital on Old Madras Road. Drilling machines will be brought to these two places to begin the pile testing works and the inconvenience to public will be kept to the bare minimum.’’

‘‘The utilities’ shifting of Reach I of Metro at the CMH road is almost complete, but the works at Indiranagar is on. In about two weeks, the casting works in Indiranagar will begin, which is when the formal inauguration of Metro will be held,’’ added Madhu.

The boulevard on the M G Road will be axed during the week as per requirement.

Breather just for 2 weeks ‘‘As soon as the work begin at the Brigade Road Junction, there will be drastic traffic diversions. Buses plying from Shivajinagar towards Austin Town will also be diverted but the bus stops will be not be shifted.’’
