Replace trees felled during metro construction

‘‘Metro works will begin at MG Road on Sunday as per schedule. The boulevard will be partially cleared and the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will issue orders and carry out the felling of trees’’ said executive director of BMRC, M S Nagendra. In first phase, 11 trees will be grounded.

‘‘The Metro Corporation can carry-out tree transplantation for felling trees coming in the way of alignments. The developing company has already carried out similar work in Delhi to save few heritage trees. The BBMP is already talking about creating tree clusters in the park. This is the right time to relocate the trees in the parks. Apart from being inexpensive in terms of time and money, it will benefit the environment. The new saplings, which will planted by the developing agency, will take years to achieve full growth. As shown by the artistic impression released recently, fully grown trees will be a possibility only after a few decades. If necessary, the Government should alter alignment to save the green cover.’’
