A team from the Animal Help Foundation, Ahmedabad, will start the CNVR (Catch, Neuter, Vaccinate and Release) programme on dogs in the City from April 17.

Speaking to mediapersons, Rahul Sehgal, head of the foundation, said his team comprising 14 members will arrive in the City on Saturday. A dog census will be conducted on Sunday. “If everything goes as per schedule, we will launch the programme on Tuesday,” he said.

The programme is a pilot project undertaken by the BBMP and is a part of the Animal Birth Control (ABC) programme.

Mr Sehgal added, the foundation has asked the BBMP to provide an ambulance, accommodation for the team members and also asked for police protection if necessary.

He said the Palike has asked him to conduct the CNVR on 5,000 dogs. “Unless 70 per cent of dogs in a particular locality are not sterilized, the programme will not be successful. Our aim is to operate 95 per cent dogs in each zone. I will not start the programme in the next zone unless the targets are met,” he said.
