Cubbon Park turns into parking area

Bangalore: For many people, a Saturday evening walk in Cubbon Park was no stroll in the park. For, they had to walk amidst dozens of buses and maxi cabs parked haphazardly. Buses were also parked there after ferrying participants for a function at the Vidhana Soudha.
According to regular walkers, Cubbon Park has always been at the receiving end when functions take place at Vidhana Soudha and nearby areas. Participants are usually dropped in the park and also given food. As a result, people leisurely sit on the lawns and mess up the entire area. Saturday was no different.
“Buses were parked from the Lawn Tennis Association premises to Mallaiah Circle. This caused a heavy traffic jam in the park. People had their meals on the lawn and the whole area was littered with paper plates,’’ a concerned resident told TOI. Horticultural department director G K Vasanth Kumar said the organisers had not taken mandatory permission prior to holding the function.
