Save Ulsoor Lake

Quoting a mail from Leo Saldanha of the Environment Support Group -

"The BMP proposing a parking area on the foreshore (Gangadhar Chetty Road side) area of the Ulsoor Tank, is not a temporary arrangement. 4 of the 5 acres will be taken for the parking area and the idea is to shift all the parking from Commercial St to this proposed car park. Quite obviously everyone locally resident is opposed to the idea, and they have been fighting against the proposal with different officers, yet the work has continued.

This ongoing activity and the proposal is clearly in violation of interim directions of High Court against encroachment of tanks (Futehally and others, 1995), is violative of Lakshman Rao Committee report and also violates many of the land use provisions. Owing to the pressure from local residents, BMP has potentially confirmed a meeting
on this issue on Monday, 22 Jan at BMP Commissioner' s officer, around 5 pm.

I request as many as can attend this meeting to turn up, in solidarity and also to pressurize officials against doing anything illegal and stupid. Pl call Mr. Rudraprasad (9945400573) and Mr. Patrick (9945517147) to reconfirm if this meeting will take place and also the time."
