Bangalore’s roads to wear new look soon
The BMP has a host of projects to upgrade the city's major roads

The Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) has taken up road-related projects that include road widening, asphalting, development of footpaths and upgradation of existing roads. Other works being taken up are de-silting of drains, covering of drains and laying of pavement stones on footpaths.
Asphalting work
The BMP is asphalting several roads in Padmanabhanagara and Srinivasapura areas in Bangalore South. Also, work on asphalting interior roads in Banashankari 2nd Stage and BTM Layout in this part of the city has begun.
Work is in progress on Bannerghatta Road, where drains are being dug and footpaths made ready before actual asphalting can begin. Road asphalting works on Kammanahalli Main Road is nearing completion. Work on Padarayanapura Main Road is progressing and expected to be completed by June.
Road strengthening
Some city roads are in for strengthening. This involves concrete reinforcement to make them more sturdy and last longer.
As part of a Karnataka Municipal Reforms Project (KMRP), 29th Main in BTM layout has been strengthened. The stretch of road from Vatal Nagaraj Circle to the end of Magadi Road is nearing completion.
Some major arterial roads in Bangalore are to be strengthened too. These roads are Dr Rajkumar Road, West of Chord Road, Sampige Road, Margosa Road, Minsk Road to National Highway 7 and Soap factory to Jalahalli junction and Ring Road from Mysore Road Junction up to Silk Board junction. Tenders have already been floated and the project is expected to be completed by June 2007.
Strengthening work on some major roads in the IT-BT corridor has been entrusted to the Karnataka Land Army Corporation Limited (KLACL). Fourteen roads in the Koramangala and Indiranagar areas and some 17 roads in the M G Road area have been taken up. Work is on.
Road widening
Road widening works on important roads like the Palace Road, Seshadri Road, Race Course Road and Kasturba Road has been entrusted to the Karnataka Road Development Corporation Limited (KRDCL). The cost involved is Rs 14.03 crores.
Tenders are being invited for the widening of Laskar Hosur Road, Hosur Road (Yenkey Factory to Silk Board junction), Bellary Road (Windsor Manor to Hebbal Flyover) and Nrupathunga Road (construction of bus bays and formation of roads).
