Work on Rajkumar Kalakshetra in Rajajinagar is yet to be finished
Bangalore: Sample this. An auditorium that was inaugurated eight years ago is still in the process of being completed. There is no proper electricity, no air conditioning, no green rooms or lighting, and the engineers say that about 95 per cent of the work is done. No cultural activities have taken place there.
The auditorium is Rajkumar Kalakshetra at Rajajinagar and the agency involved in its construction is the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike.
Minister for Health and Bangalore district in-charge Minister R. Ashok, who inspected the auditorium on Tuesday, ordered the officials concerned to complete all work by February 1. Blaming the contractors and the engineers involved for the interminable delay in finishing the work, Mr. Ashok said that the building should not have been inaugurated if it was not completed fully.
He said that the problem was in the way tenders for the building had been given out. One company was given tenders for the sound system, another for the electricity and lighting, another for the airconditioning. Multiple tenders have meant that no single company could be taken to task for not completing the project, he said.
The cellar has parking space for 500 vehicles but it has fallen into disuse and has been converted into a urinal. Mr. Ashok suggested that discussions could be held with the Regional Transport Office situated nearby and it could be leased out for the RTO to park their vehicles. The lease could be given out for five years, he said.
