BANGALORE: In the New Year, the horticulture department will initiate plans to beautify the sprawling 240 acres of pristine surrounding and make visits more fun-filled and comfortable for visitors at Lalbagh Botanical Garden.
It will introduce joggers’ track, electrical bicycles and light and sound programmes. For around 7,000 walkers who stroll the lush green environs in the morning hours, the joggers’ track stretches from Main gate to West Gate. It will be further extended from Siddapura and Double Road gate, to make a complete circle.
The success of pollution-free battery operated cars has initiated the introduction of electrical bicycles for visitors. According to Director Dr G K Vasant Kumar, “The bicycles will specially benefit foreigners who would like to take a round of the park. This proposal is yet to be chalked out.”
Soon, CDs of 45-minutes duration will be released which will have all the information on Lalbagh. The officials also want to involve school children at Lalbagh.
“The students can have a knowledge on the botanical value and thus learn amidst nature,” he added.
The other attractions will be introduction of insectivorous plant house, orchardium, aquatic garden and establishment of pigeon colony for the visitors. Planting programmes will also be taken up.
Also on cards are weather display board, computerised gates, wireless handsets, release of brochure and memento store.
In the wake of recent death of fishes in the lake, Kumar said, “The department has applied to Pollution Control Board and forest department to allow fishing rights on a limited basis.”
