Delivery boys pay for our free pizzas

Delivery boys pay for our free pizzas
The Times of India

Bangalore: A chain e-mail doing the rounds reads — boycott free pizzas. And this mail seems to be getting good response by the day due to its vast circulation.
The e-mail explains how the delivery boy is made to pay for the pizza if he fails to home-deliver it in the promised time.
Apparently, a portion of the delivery boy’s wages is deducted towards the free pizza that is awarded to a customer when he does not get his order within the specified timeframe.
“No, that’s false. We do not charge our staff in case they are late. And we are fully aware of Bangalore’s traffic and how bad it can get. It is not that a Brigade Road outlet will deliver a pizza to a Rajajinagar customer. The order is always re-routed to the nearest pizza outlet from where it will be delivered,” say spokespersons of a few pizza outlets.
The other portion of the mail seems to be closer to reality — “To deliver the pizzas, the delivery boys take high traffic risks as their work becomes the priority. Their life and safety risks are neither looked into by the pizza shop management.”
Well, you see them in brightcolour uniforms on two-wheelers fitted with huge hot-cases zipping along the city roads.
Honking and always trying to over-take other vehicles, these delivery boys definitely are more anxious about their parcels than their security.
Yet, when you answer the door to take the delivery of pizzas, these delivery boys’ first gesture is a wide, “cheesy smile”.
Perhaps more cheesier than the pizzas you had ordered in the first place!
