BANGALORE: Even as the State Government has begun the work on ‘Greater Bangalore,’ to bring many new areas within the jurisdiction of Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP), residents in many localities in the city have to be content with minimal basic amenities.

Residents in Ramamurthynagar, Domlur, Rajajinagar, Bannerghatta Road, Nandini Layout, Banshankari and many other areas complain of bad roads, inadequate street lights, lack of water management and drainage system.

Local MLAs and former corporators blame BMP and the Government for the bad state of affairs.

Rajajinagar MLA N L Narendra Babu said the Government and the local body have not made adequate budgetary allocations to ensure that facilities are provided to residents.

“Before formation of Greater Bangalore, the new areas should be surveyed and steps should be taken to improve facilities in BMP limits,” he said.

Former Corporator S K Nataraj of Jayanagar said areas in CMC and TMC limits are not developed.

“The situation might improve after the formation of Greater Bangalore. But, the current situation should be studied,” he added.

Bangalore Water Supply and Sewage Board (BWSSB) Chief Engineer, Maintenance, T Venkataraju said that due to the increasing population and rapid expansion of the City, it is becoming difficult to meet the increasing demands.

“Today every household has an overhead tank and adequate storage capacity and people still complain about lack of adequate water supply. There are some areas which get water twice or thrice a week like in OMBR Layout, Banaswadi and Nandini Layout. The department is trying to ensure that the situation improves. We are in talks with the BMP as well,” he said.
