BMP overlooks violation by Bangalore Central

BMP overlooks violation by Bangalore Central

BANGALORE: Even as the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) has begun action on land use violations in Sadashivnagar, the civic body tolerates major infringements. The Supreme Court had ordered the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to continue enforcement of building bylaw despite public outcry but BMP seems to have forgotten violations in Bangalore Central after issuing a provisional order (PO).

On 19th February 2005, Assistant Executive Engineer of BMP Shanthinagar Subdivision issued a provisional order to the owners for removal of deviation.

The PO pointed out that the entire 1100.78 square metres fifth floor was not authorised as per the sanctioned plan (LP No SHN/162/2001-02 dated 27.02.2002). But the civic officials had no idea what follow-up action was taken after the PO Joint Commissioner (East) Nagaraj told this website's newspaper that the details were available with the central office while the Joint Director (town planning) was not accessible.

Further, the Chief Engineer (East) Gopalswamy said that he was yet to obtain details from his subordinate staff. That is how easily the BMP staff ignores major violation in an imposing structure right opposite to its zonal office in Mayo Hall.

In August 2004, DGP of Karnataka Fire and Emergency Services wrote to BMP that the building had permission as an office complex but the entire building was converted into a mall with restaurants. BMP commissioner K Jairaj told this website's newspaper that he would immediately call for papers and take action on violations.
