BANGALORE: After creating a success story with Information Technology, Bangalore is poised to emerge as a global aerospace hub. The State Government is planning to set up South Asia’s first Aero Space Component Manufacturing Units Zone in the city.

The proposed hub is coming up on 1,300 acres of land near the Devanahalli International Airport. Highly-placed sources in the Government told this paper that the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) will acquire the land and give it for exclusive use by the aerospace companies.

The State Government intends to complete the process of setting up this zone before the Aero India show, which is scheduled from February 7 to 11, 2007, in Bangalore. The Government wants to showcase this zone in the Aero India show to attract the global companies such as European major Air Bus Industrie, American aerospace companies Boeing, United Industries Corporation, Apros Corporation and Aircraft Research Association.

In a Department of Industries and Commerce official meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Malathi Das on Friday, four companies made presentations showing interest to invest here.

One of them, a US company has expressed its interest to invest Rs 3,000 crore said a senior officer. The State Government expects an investment of over Rs 10,000 crore in this hub and creation of over 10,000 jobs.

The global giants are said to be keen to invest in Bangalore, due to its available talent pool.
