BANGALORE: Traffic on many busy roads in the City was badly hit on Monday afternoon as film actor and Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Ambareesh was taken in a procession from Airport Road to Palace Grounds.

Most of the Airport Road traffic came to a standstill. Many office-goers and college students were stranded on the roads for nearly an hour during afternoon. The city traffic police had converted some of the roads near Airport into one-ways to facilitate smooth flow of traffic. Parts of the road were also blocked.

Police had a tough time controlling the large crowd hours before and after the arrival of Ambareesh. “There is usually a traffic jam on M G Road, but today it is too much. We are late so late for college,” says Madhu, a college student.

The situation at signals was also chaotic, as compared to roads as the vehicles were piled up due to the delay in clearance. This resulted in a jam in nearby approaching roads also.

“It is a chaos. The Airport Road is a busy stretch, but today it was insufferable,” says Santosh Kumar. “We commoners have to suffer because of the VIP movement. The police should not allow such processions on busy roads of the City. Otherwise, they should ensure that the daily routine of the people should not be disturbed,” said Manjunath M N Roads towards Outer Ring Road and Old Madras Road were also blocked.

The police officials opine that no area can be left unchecked.
