Deccan Herald

Horticulture Minister Shashikant Akkappa Naik paid a surprise visit to the Lalbagh botanical garden here on Sunday morning and took officials on duty to task for poor maintenance of the world-famous garden. Morning walkers, present in large numbers in the garden as it was Sunday, complained to Mr Naik that the garden lacked cleanliness. They also brought to his notice that nothing had been done to check the stray dog menace and to prevent anti-social elements from using a few places within the garden for their shady activities.

Mr Naik directed the officials to take steps to keep stray dogs off the garden and maintain cleanliness. He assured the strollers that measures would be taken to curb anti-social activities within the garden.

He directed the officials to grow medicinal plants.
