Bengaluru awaits Cabinet nod
Deccan Herald

The process on ‘Bangalore to Bengaluru’ change of name is awaiting the State Cabinet nod.

If the cabinet approval comes this week, there will be time enough to issue the gazette notification before November 1 and the official announcement can be made on Rajyotsava day, official sources explained.

The Suvarna Karnataka Cell of the Kannada and Culture Department has sent the proposal on the change of name, after it was recently discussed at the high power committee on Suvarna Karnataka celebrations, sources said.

The proposal is also referred to the other related departments - Urban Development and Revenue, sources said.

Other names

It was noted that as announced earlier, Belgaum (as Belagavi) Mangalore (as Mangaluru), Mysore as (Mysuru), Shimoga (as Shivamogga) Hospet (as Hosapete) and Hubli (as Hubballi) are also in for a revert to their original forms in name.
