: The onset of monsoon in June 2008 will bring an added cheer to vehicle users in Bangalore when Indias first-of-itskind elevated highway between Silk Board junction and Electronics City will become operational.

The new highway will ease traffic congestion and cut travel time from Silk Board junction to Electronics City. "It now takes 3090 minutes. The new highway will reduce journey time to 6-10 minutes," project director Manoj Kumar told VVi ij ja ayy T Ti imme ess. . The elevated highway would be a four-lane overhead service. There would also be a main carriageway on the ground level which comprised three-lanes on either sides and a two-lane service road on either sides, taking the number of lanes to 14, he said.

The work would be undertaken in two stages. In the first instance, the contractors —Soma Enterprises, Nagarjuna Construction Company and Maytas (a Satyam Computers group company) — were undertaking the ground work by widening the existing four-lane road and making service roads and provisions for drainage, he said.

After the completion of ground work stretch of one kilometre, the bridge work would commence in November. "The construction of the highway will reduce travel time and also bring down accident rate on the road, Kumar said.
