Even while people experience tedious traffic jams everyday near the Sujatha Theatre underpass, government departments continue to play the blame game for the chaos.
The police blamed the Bangalore Mahanagar Palike for bad planning of the Sujatha theatre underpass near Rajajinagar.
Speaking to Deccan Herald, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic- West zone) Ramsubba said, “Work on the bridge is progressing at a slow pace. The bridge work on the open drains started along with the Sujatha underpass construction, but the work is far from complete.”
The bridge work is hampering movement of flow of traffic, he added. The traffic flow is heavy as vehicles coming from Modi circle, Basaweshwara Nagar, Malleswaram, Rajajinagar and Magadi Road have to use this underpass.
The traffic police are yet to conduct a study of the number of vehicles on the route, he added.
Mayor Mumtaz Begum said, “The work is slow as BWSSB is yet to shift some drinking water and drainage pipes from the place where the bridge is being planned. The bridge will ease the traffic flow once constructed.”
However, BWSSB officials have assured to carry out the work at the earliest, but after drawing a plan for the alternative.
The public who travel through the Sujatha Theatre underpass are forced to bear the brunt of traffic jams.
