Bangalore: The BMP Commissioner K. Jairaj and Additional Commissioner Bipin Gopalakrishna on Friday requested the people to follow the guidelines issued by the civic body and the police during Ganesh celebrations and idol immersion.
Addressing a press conference, Mr. Gopalakrishna said that the organisers should obtain permissions from the police, Fire Services, BMP and BESCOM for installing Ganesh idols at public places during the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. No orchestra must play after 10 p.m. and the police must be notified of when organisers plan to immerse idols and the route they plan to take, he said.
The BMP has said that Ganesh idols can be immersed at Sankey Tank, Ulsoor Lake, Lalbagh Lake and the Yediyur Lake. Besides, the BMP has also arranged mobile immersion tanks where idols less than one-and-a-half foot high can be immersed.
The mobile tanks will be stationed at the Netaji Subash Chandra Bose Stadium, Saneguruvanahalli tank area in Basaveshwaranagar (Ward 19), Vidyapeetha Circle in Banashankari 1st Stage (Ward 53), BDA complex in Koramangala 3rd Block (Ward 68), ORC Road, Austin Town, (Ward 76), Indiranagar, 100 Feet Road, (Ward 72), Rajajinagar Commercial Complex (Ward 15), Havanur Circle (Ward 19) and Police Quarters Grounds, Vijayanagar Circle (Ward 10).
The Pollution Control Board will also station mobile tanks at 10 places on August 27. Immersion tanks will be stationed near Ramamurthy Nagar police station, Malleswaram police station, Jayanagar 4th block police station, Jeevanbimanagar police station and Peenya 2nd Stage bus stop from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Immersion tanks will be stationed at Hanumanthnagar police station, Yeshwantpura police station, Madhavapura police station, Ulsoor police station and Peenya police station from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Mr. Jairaj requested people not to harm public property during the celebrations and said that those doing so would be fined.
