BANGALORE: In a bid to decongest the pedestrian traffic, Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) will erect two flyovers in City. One structure is all set to come up at Maharani College premises and another in front of Forum shopping mall.

These two structures will be in addition to the existing seven skywalks in the city built by Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP).

“All you need is the will to climb few steps to sky-walks. It’s the most hygienic and safest mode of crossing the road. Life is not at risk when you cross the road using sky walk,” said BDA Commissioner Shankarlinge Gowda.

Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy had recently promised a sky-walk in Maharani College premises enabling students to go from arts department to science department without crossing the busy road.

“We are committed to start the work on skywalk in the college premises. We are on a lookout to identify more crowded places in City where sky-walks can be erected,” he said.

At present, the BDA has decided to go with a sky-walk at Forum mall circle. When asked if any survey was conducted prior to planning a skywalk at Forum circle, he said, “Given the pedestrian population on the either side of Forum shopping mall, one does not need any survey to make a skywalk. The skywalk here will solve 90 per cent of traffic problems in the junction. The skywalk will be built on public-private-partnership basis,” he said.
