BANGALORE: To ensure that people do not have to travel longer distances to reach Regional Transport Offices (RTO), the Transport department is considering reallocation of areas under RTOs in the City.

This is being done after residents coming under the jurisdiction of newly started RTOs complained that the offices are too far from their areas.

“The department received such complaints from residents of a few places and we are considering their request to reallocate the areas,” Transport Commissioner M C Narayan Gowda told this website’s newspaper. People can even write to the Commissioner about their problems, he said.

“Residents of Rajagopalnagar come under Peenya RTO for which they have to travel till Nelamangala, wherein local citizens prefer Rajajinagar RTO. Similar complaints were received from Padmanabhanagar and Hanumanthnagar. The changes will be made to help people,” he said.

Gowda said that computerisation of RTOs will solve many problems and there will be no scope for middlemen. “The project will be completed in two months,” he said.

Besides, the latest technologies will be used in collaboration with city traffic police. “We will provide ‘Smart Card’, a combination of driving licence and registration certificate. It will enable the traffic cops to obtain past records of offences. Smart cards will be inserted in ‘Simputers’ to attain past data,” Gowda said.

Meanwhile, the department has also set a deadline for fuel conversion of all autorickshaws to LPG by October 18. Already 35,000 autos have been converted to LPG and 15,000 are yet to change to the eco-friendly fuel. The department will also help to start more LPG filling stations in the city.
