Blossom bliss

Blossom bliss
Deccan Herald

Take this as a reminder. You have hardly a week left to check out the flower show at Lalbagh. This time around, a lot of new concepts in flower arrangements have found space in the renowned Glass House.

For instance, there is a Belgium flower arrangement towards the rear end of the Glass House. Designed by Sandhya, an expert, the arrangement with orchids and liliums, has an international feel to it. Then there’s Rama Ramanathan’s Dutch-style arrangement with flowers and foliage interspersed with fruits for a mystical feel.

But what makes this year special is ‘Janur’, an art that uses tender coconut leaves and many Ganesha idols and bells have been created out of it. A globe made of red and white roses shows different continents and a bird carrying the message of peace and love; another floral arrangement indicating the cultural heritage of South India with the chariots at Hampi from Karnataka, Onam representing Kerala, Pongal festival from Tamil Nadu and Charminar from Hyderabad also demand special attention.

There is also a moss elephant and a peacock made from banana leaves put up by students of Jyoti Nivas College, which are show stealers, as is a floral giraffe that stands tall. Also check out Ajit Robello’s creation of a National Flag with anthuriums.

Apart from these, there are the regulars – vegetables and flowers – in a neat arrangement and displays by organisations. As usual, competitions are also being held in different categories like best residential garden, best police garden and best hospital garden.

Remember to be there before August 15.
