City to see fewer 2-wheelers: CM

City to see fewer 2-wheelers: CM

Bangalore: Traffic jams? Don’t worry. CM H D Kumaraswamy is out to decongest city’s roads.

His first target is two-wheelers. To contain the traffic, it is necessary to reduce the two-wheeler vehicle population, he said.

Improving public transport is among the other suggestions he made while announcing a 10-point programme to decongest the city roads.

“We would be coming with a plan during the next one month to substantially improve the public transport system in the city.’’

Speaking at the inaugural of the World Customs Organisation Information and Communication Technology Conference, he said work is already in progress for the setting up of an intelligent signalling system. This will considerably reduce stoppage time at various junctions and intersections.

He announced setting up of a central control room to monitor — through video cameras and computers — the traffic situation at nearly 200 junctions.

Kumaraswamy said the magnitude of traffic problem in Bangalore can be gauged from the fact that almost 1,000 vehicles are registered in the city every day.
