BMIC phase I to be opened on Aug 15

Bangalore: The much-delayed Rs 1,250-crore phase-I of the Bangalore M ysore Infrastructure Corridor , involving the ’bo w-and-arro w’shaped 62 km of quality roadways, will be thrown open to traffic on Aug 15.

Officials of Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise (NICE), which is executing the project, told Vijay Times here on Thursday that 41 km of peripheral road connecting T umkur Road with H osur Road near Electronic City would be thro wn open along with the 9.1-km link road between M ysore Road (BHEL) and Somapura (the interchange and the beginning of the Bangalore M ysore expressway the ’arro w’ section).

Besides, the 12-km expressway up to Bidadi, including the development of interchanges at H osur Road, T umkur Road and Link Road, would also be ready for traffic mo vement.

Following this, NICE is set to kickstart the second phase of the BMIC in September to integrate the mono rail system connecting the 41-km peripheral road from T umkur Road to H osur Road near Electronic City . Officials expect the mono rail system to be in place by mid-2007, eight months from second phase project execution after September 2006.

The mono rail will run on an elevated platform constructed along the median of the 75-metre wide peripheral road and will facilitate commuting between T umkur Road and Electronic City in quick time.

NICE sources told Vijay Times that a special purpose vehicle (SPV ) would be set up through a joint venture with NICE after September to integrate the mono rail with the second phase of the BMIC project.

T alks are on with M et Rail India Private Limited to implement the Rs 2,000crore mono rail system, they said.
