IF Bangalore is recognised as the ’Garden City’, it is partly due to the efforts of the Horticultur department here. Horticulture Department director V asant Kumar spoke about what the lacks and what can be done to make it one best in the world. The man, known for his straight forwardness, spoke straight from his heart.

Bangalore is a unique City that is 3,000 feet abov the sea level. It therefore has an excellent varie flora and fauna, its vegetation being the result o elevation.

The heritage of Bangalore being the ’Garden City’ needs to be maintained. The identity of Bangalore is in it’s parks. W e should see to it that the City does not lose its identity . From an environmental point of view , the City requires sufficient islands of greenery . The vegetation here needs to be preserved. It is difficult to revamp old areas of the City . But care should be taken so that new areas decored with sufficient gardens, keeping in the next 50 to 60 years.

Because of the amazing weather that prevails here, Bangalore is an ideal place to breed Therefore, rose cultivation should be encoura more here.

Rain water harvesting should be made compulsory in the City . Also, initiatives should be tak reuse effluent water after purification on a scale. Storm water soaking pits should be installe underground to maintain the level of the un ground water table.

With a large number of people migrating to City , traffic congestions and pollutions are unavoidable.

W e can’t blame the authorities for everythi The citizens also need to be more civic conscious.

Another major concern is that the number of proper sports grounds in the City is going down.

Bangalore lacks national-level sports grounds and at present, replicas of the Kanteerva stadium atleast 10 different places in the City nee established.

The City needs more of quality swimming pools, basket ball courts, cricket pitches and good coach es. Sports clubs should be formed and coach should be brought from different locations. coaches should be given proper recognition.
