‘Concept of free parking is wrong’
The ‘pay and park’ system, which was withdrawn after strong opposition from motorists a year ago is now slated to come back. The Government has directed the Bangalore Mahanagar Palike to take steps to re-introduce the system. “We welcome the move to re-introduce pay and park as it will help maintain traffic in a better way. Roads are essentially meant for traffic movement, not for the parking of vehicles. As the number of vehicles plying on city roads is increasing day by day, every inch of road is essential for traffic movement.
“The concept of free parking is a wrong one. In no country other than India do we find free parking. Free parking allows motorists to park their vehicles in a haphazard manner.”
M N Reddi, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic).
