Double Road opens, but remains chock-a-block

Double Road opens, but remains chock-a-block
The Times of India

Bangalore: The messed-up Double Road has finally come clean. The road which was in a terrible condition ever since the rain havoc of last year, has been made two-way, effective from Thursday.

For the first time, concrete has been provided on the road, which the BMP says is a major achievement. It took over two months for the mess to get cleared simply because of a major drain running across the road.

But there was no let-up in traffic jams on the busy road. On Thursday, vehicles piled up, adding to the chaos.
Opposite to the BMTC bus terminus on Double Road, a primary valley runs and the water percolates from bottom to top creating unsanitary conditions.

BMP chief engineer Gopalaswamy says the problem has been rectified by constructing a culvert across K H Road. The stretch that was causing all the trouble for three months now — 100 mts near BMTC terminus — has been redone at a cost of Rs 15 lakh.

Commuters can heave a sigh of relief; the road is a thoroughfare and the blocked portion has been opened up.
