Work on the 9 km stretch of the Bangalore-Hosur elevated expressway will commence in the first week of February.
The expressway, the first of its kind in Bangalore, will have a 4-lane elevated road stretching to 9 km and 6 km of 6-lane road on the ground.
The expressway is being developed on a build-own-and-operate basis and the work has been awarded to a consortium of three companies which include Soma Enterprises Ltd, NCC and Maytas.
The project will be completed in 30 months from the zero date, Union minister of state for shipping, road transport and highways K H Muniyappa said.
The minister, after reviewing the progress of various National Highway projects in the state at a meeting with senior officials of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and National Highways Development Programme (NHDP) phase-III in Karnataka, said that the elevated expressway project is expected to cost Rs 450 crore as per the detailed project report (DPR).
The length of the road is 25 km and will connect Bangalore and Hosur. The elevation will begin at the Central Silk Board junction and touch down at Electronics City. It will have two down ramps connecting first and second phase of Electronics City.
He said, the ministry has initiated the detailed project report (DPR) work for the proposed National Highway between Bijapur and Chitradurga.
The DPR work will begin next month. The road will be developed in two phases, the first phase, between Bijapur and Hospet (194 km) and the second phase, between Hospet and Chitradurga.
Based on the viability of the project the road will be developed in four lanes on the BOT basis under NHDP phase-III. The work on 84 km stretch of National Highway No 4A between Goa and Belgaum will commence soon.
The work on the Bangalore-Hoskote-Kolar-Mulbagal and Bangalore-Nelamangala-Hassan will begin soon. This road will consist of a 6-lane road between Bangalore and Hoskote. The cost of the project has been estimated around Rs 530 crore.
The Mangalore port is being connected to NH-48 by a 4-lane link from Suratkal to Bantwal under port connectivity programme at a cost of Rs 160 crore.
The contract has been awarded to the Indian Railways Construction Company (Ircon) and the work has already been started, the minister add.
