Land acquisition for metro rail has begun: Dharam Singh

BANGALORE: Karnataka Chief Minister N Dharam Singh, on Tuesday, said that the process for acquisition of land for the ambitious metro rail project for the city has begun.

Speaking to newsmen after a high-level meeting with Bangalore Development Authority (BDA), City Corporation, Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board and legislators here, he said that metro project for the city was on its course and process of land acquisition for the first phase of 22 km stretch has been started.

Singh said that apart from metro rail, the BDA is going ahead with its 140-km stretch of peripheral ring road for Bangalore, series of fly-overs, grade separators and other projects at a cost of Rs 2500 crores.

The City Corporation had also issued tenders to take up of repairs of roads at a cost of about Rs 500 crores. Strict instructions have been issued to the authorities concerned to complete the works before March and the officials would be held responsible for lagging behind the projects.

He said that road repair works in the entire State under Public Works Department were also going on war footing and claimed that there was no dearth of funds for the works.

He said that the works would be reviewed regularly to ensure implementation of works within stipulated time.
