The allotment of 300 acres of land across various BDA Layouts and the approval of a Rs 3,000 crore infrastructure development project are at the top of a long list of demands the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation placed before the State government on Tuesday.

The BMTC’s charter of demands came on a day when the government, led by Chief Minister Dharam Singh himself, was all praise for the BMTC for its introduction of the state-of-the-art Volvo bus services in Bangalore City. The chief minister assured to consider the demands.

Making the demands at the launch of the Volvo services, BMTC Managing Director Upendra Tripathy said the 300 acres is over and above the 240 acres the government has already made available to them. The land is required for setting up depots, bus stands, bus bays at strategic locations around the City and its periphery, he said. The Rs 3,000 crore project proposal is being readied for availing assistance through the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission. The BMTC also suggested that the government appoint international experts to work on a three-tier dedicated road network over sewerage lines.
