Contractors sabotage road works: MLAs

Contractors sabotage road works: MLAs
Deccan Herald

Why are the road works in Bangalore facing a roadblock? According to city MLAs, it is a clear case of sabotage by the contractors’’syndicate’.

Basavanagudi MLA K Chandrashekhar, Malleswaram MLA Seetaram and Jayamahal MLA Roshan Baig told Chief Minister Dharam Singh that the contractors had refused to participate in the earlier tenders and “sabotaged” the road work, at the review meeting convened by the Chief Minister to discuss Bangalore’s development on Tuesday.

“There is corruption in the BMP, where every file has to move from table to table, resulting in delays. Some people with vested interests are helping the mafia, and this has resulted in a lukewarm response to work tenders,” alleged the MLAs, according to an insider who attended the closed-door meeting.

Later, at the meeting, Mr Singh announced the Bangalore Traffic Improvement Project at the cost of Rs 44 crore for 2006-07.

HIGHLIGHTS

*Road works must be taken up by March and completed by July.

* Resurfacing of 350 kms, in all BMP wards to be completed by April

*Karnataka Land Army Corporation to complete road works on 35 roads of 46 identified roads by April.
