Elevated Expressway project to begin in Feb

The elevated expressway on the Bangalore-Hosur National Highway will commence next month, connecting the Electronic city to southern Bangalore, Union Minister of State for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways K H Muniyappa said today.

Talking to newspersons after a review of the National Highway projects in Karnataka, he said three contractors had been awarded with the contract for the Rs 450 crore project taken up to ensure easy access to the electronic city where a number of IT companies have set up offices.

The project had been taken up at the behest of the IT companies which had been complaining about traffic irritants on the National Highway.

He said work had also been initiated under the Golden Quadrilateral project and North South Corridor project that would cover a distance of 457 km in the state. The projets would be taken up at a cost of Rs 2,400 crore. In addition, four-laning of the Belgaum-Goa highway would also be taken up at a cost of Rs 900 crore, he added.
