From Thursday, spot potholes

From Thursday, spot potholes
The Times of India

Bangalore: The great ‘spot the pothole’ contest envisioned by the BMP, will start this week. “The commissioner and the mayor wanted to announce it formally and it took some time for sprucing up the roads,’’ say BMP officials.
Thursday is when it will formally come into effect: 100 km of roads in the city will be declared as pothole-free, and on specified days, for specified stretches of roads, if citizens spot a pothole they win cash awards, says engineer-in-chief Rame Gowda.
Though the scheme was thought up by the BMP over a month ago, there were the usual road-blocks. Engineers and junior engineers were apprehensive that their salaries would be slashed if citizens found potholes on the roads and protested against the contest.
