Nandini Layout residents stage protest

BANGALORE: Members of the Nandini Layout Parisara Samrakshana Sangha are worried over the poor maintenance of parks, especially the Circular Park situated behind the Police Station in Nandini Layout.

They staged a protest in front of the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike head office and submitted a memorandum to Mayor Mumtaz Begum demanding that the BMP should immediately take up measures to restore the parks.

The Circular Park was developed eight years ago at a cost of over Rs. 10 lakhs.

Apart from the lawns and play equipment, the park was popular for the special variety of medicinal plants grown there, the residents said.

"But the last one year, the BMP has not bothered to ensure that the plants are watered daily. There is no one to look after the park and the lawns and plants have dried up. The park is in a bad condition now and over 3,000 people who used to visit the park on a daily basis are now disappointed," the sangha secretary B. Prabhakara said.

Pointing out that the condition of two other parks in the area is also similar, Mr. Prabhakar said that the BMP's horticulture officials started neglecting the parks in the area after the death of the area corporator N. Narsimha Murthy.
