BANGALORE: Binnypet MLA V. Somanna on Sunday said that he has submitted a proposal to the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) for construction of three new flyovers in his constituency.

Speaking at the inauguration of development works in Hampinagar, Mr. Somanna said the proposal is to have flyovers connecting Sangam Circle in Goripalya to Bangalore University, Vijaynagar Bus Stand to Prasanna Theatre on Magadi Road and KIMCO Junction to Sangam Circle in Goripalya.

Justifying the need for the flyovers, he said they will help decongest traffic.

He said several discussions with the railway officials for stoppage of all trains towards and from Mysore at the Bapujinagar railway crossing were in vain. "I have requested for stoppage of trains here for the convenience of people of this part of the city. But the officials are yet to take a decision," he said.

Primary and Secondary Education Minister Ramalinga Reddy said the Government is firm on implementing the Metro Rail project. "Despite opposition from our coalition partners, we are firm on the project. We are committed to implement it at any cost," he said.

Earlier, Mr. Somanna and Mr. Reddy inaugurated 18 developmental works being implemented at a cost of Rs 8.12 crores in Hampinagar. These included a playground, a subway connecting Hampinagar to Attiguppe, a gymnasium, prayer hall and horticulture office building.

The area corporator, H Jayaram, and other corporators were present.
