Repair work on the rain-ravaged KH Road (Double Road) gained momentum on Friday with the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) digging up a stretch of the road to start the concrete work. The work, which is expected to take two to three days to complete, has led to diversions of traffic from both the MG Road and Lalbagh directions.
The stretch opposite to the BMTC bus stand has been closed to vehicular traffic from Lalbagh direction, which is presently diverted through the parallel stretch of the road. Traffic from the MG Road direction is being routed around the BMTC bus stand.
The road was a scene of activity on Friday, as workers and an earthmover were at work, which started late night on Thursday. “We are digging up the stretch and would be laying the concrete after the work is complete. We will also have the BMP Technical Advisor at the site to offer suggestions,” said M V Prabhakar, BMP Executive Engineer — Chamarajpet.
After the rains which lashed Bangalore last month, KH Road had ended up as one of the most affected roads with the potholes and broken stretches of road leading to recurring traffic snarls. Slush accumulated on the sides of the road had also added to the traffic congestion. On Friday, workers were also seen clearing the drains on the side of the road.
