People are miffed with the government which listens to the IT sector’s demands on infrastructure while ignoring the common man’s plea.
Bangalore traders, especially those functioning in the commercially busy Chikpet area, are a worried lot, after the traffic police announced its decision to ban parking on BVK Iyengar Road, Hospital Road, Avenue Road and Chikpet Main Road, and which will come into effect from October 24.
In a letter addressed to the chief minister, the members of the Electrical Merchants’ Association complained that this action would result in tremendous losses for them. Firstly, the traders themselves will have no space to park their vehicles, they rue.
“We will be denied the basic facility of parking space if no-parking zone is enforced,” said D Vinay Bomb, President of the association.
Bias
Accusing the Government of being partial towards the IT sector, Bomb said, “Infrastructure development is being taken up on priority because the IT big-wigs are raising their voices, but what about us? We have been requesting the government to widen roads in Chikpet area for years, but nothing has been done.”
Loss of revenue
“With the festival season approaching, the no-parking rule will bring our business to a standstill, as there will be no parking facility for the customers. This will result in a loss of revenue, not only for us, but to the Government as well,” he added.
The association also asked the government to allot land near the Old Jail to allow for the shifting of the Electrical Market.
