BDA told to explain land acquisition process

BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Friday directed the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) to place before it a list containing the criteria on the basis of which some lands were left out of acquisition proceedings for the Arkavathy Layout.
A Division Bench, comprising Chief Justice Nauvdip Kumar Sodhi and Justice N. Kumar, gave the direction after petitioners said some lands had been left out of the acquisition proceedings.
The Bench was hearing appeals from the Government, the Bangalore Development Authority, and former Chief Minister S.M. Krishna against the April 20005 order of a single judge quashing the acquisition of land for the formation of the layout.
Raising the issue, counsel Nagananda said there was selective acquisition of land, and some pockets of land in four areas were not acquired.
The Bench asked the BDA to place before it on Monday the criteria on the basis of which certain lands were left out of acquisition proceedings.
The Bench adjourned further hearing on the matter to Monday.
