BANGALORE: A day after resigning as Chairman of Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), Chief Mentor and Chairman of Infosys Technologies N R Narayana Murthy left for the USA, but not before leaving a note on investments by Infosys in the State.

According to Infosys, Murthy is expected to return to India on November 7. Though his visit to the US is pre-scheduled, it has upset Chief Minister Dharam Singh’s plans to defuse the issue.

The Chief Minister’s plan to contact Murthy and request him to withdraw the resignation did not work out on Friday as the latter remained elusive till his departure when the Chief Minister’s office tried to establish contact with him.

Down playing Murthy’s resignation, Dharam Singh said that the work on the International Airport would not be affected. His Cabinet colleague R V Deshpande also shared the same opinion.

“But I am trying to contact him over phone to convince him to reconsider his decision. His contributions to the IT sector in the State is tremendous and I will persuade him in this regard,’’ Dharam Singh said.

Now the Chief Minister has to wait at least till November 7 to contact Murthy. Before leaving to the USA, Murthy has issued a point-to-point clarification on the allegations levelled by former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda against the company.

The note was released to media by the Company, after he left Bangalore. In the meanwhile, Deshpande who was holding the Industries portfolio in the two previous governments has termed the entire development as unfortunate.

Deshpande who holds Co-operation departments in the present Government gave a clean chit to Infosys by saying that the Company was not a land grabber.

“It has brought international recognition to the City as a large number of world leaders have visited its office,’’ he said and attributed the on going spat with Gowda and Infosys to communication gap."
