BANGALORE, OCT 27: Bangalore showpiece IT event was not really teeming with activity this time as it used to be earlier, with rain playing spoilsport.

Heavy rain in the run-up to the mega trade-show and subdued sentiments prevailing in the booming sector after a showdown with the Congress-JD(S) coalition government over the infrastructure woes of Bangalore have taken their toll.

The second day, Thursday, of the four-day event on the sprawling palace grounds, the eighth edition of the exposition was a subdued one.

Organisers were quick to blame the rains for things not going on expected lines. A downpour this afternoon added to their discomfort and unease.

Director of software technology parks of India, Bangalore, BV Naidu said: “(because of rains) we have gone through a lot of hurdles. People are not coming out and we also have to overcome the negative publicity (in the wake of spotlight on bangalore’s infrastructural woes).”

The IT industry is supporting the event wholeheartedly. “The industry is absolutely in sync,” added a key mover behind the show.

But many IT officials said verbal bashing of Infosys Technologies Ltd and its chief mentor NR Narayana Murthy by former prime minister H D Deve Gowda has hurt a good section of the software sector.
