BANGALORE: Never rush to the railway city subway to catch a train. You could slip and break a bone on the wet floors.

Every time it rains, the subway that connects city railway station and the bus terminus, cause inconvenience to the commuters.

The railway authorities are at their wits end. Water stagnates on the entire floor due to leakages from the floor.

Bangalore City Corporation arranged for draining the water out through a motor.

But, the subway continued to be under water on Wednesday, thanks to the unending leakage from the once-lake site. A regular commuter Ravi Kiran of Tumkur said, ‘‘I usually avoid the subway as it is always slippery”.

“It is better to cross the tracks and catch a train rather than getting into trouble using this subway.

A vendor at the city railway station, Harish said that water flows out from the ground continuously whenever it rains.

‘‘We are seeing this leakage for many years and it becomes troublesome for us to use this subway everyday”.

“But, the authorities seem less concerned over the problem. Only on Monday, the motor was placed to drain out the water,’’ he added.

This is an important subway for many, as it connects the railway station, the bus stand and the main road.

‘‘I always take this subway as it is risky to cross the road in heavy rush. But this kind of water logging forces us to take such risks,’’ Murthy, regular commuter added.

Engineer-in-Chief of Bangalore City Corporation, Sri Hari said that the subway is an old structure and is below ground level. Earlier there used to be a lake. So whenever there are heavy rains, water leaks.

He added that people also say that there is a well inside the bus stand. ‘‘We are not sure of it”.

“But there can be other reasons behind this flowing of water’’, he said adding that engineers will probe into the situation.

Sri Hari added that pumping out of the water is the only solution to the problem for the time being.

A pit has been dug and the water is drained out into a nearby drain.
