The Karnataka government is setting up an electronic hardware park near the Bangalore International Airport, over an area of 1,400 acres, and has also cleared the construction of a two-way eight-lane, 109 km peripheral ring road at a cost of Rs 1,190 crore, Chief Minister N Dharam Singh said on Wednesday.

Addressing the trade show Bangalore IT.In 2005, he said the state government has forwarded to the union government, sector-specific SEZ (special economic zone) proposals of Wipro, HP and Biocon.

Singh said the peripheral ring road, when completed in 32 months, will prevent heavy traffic from entering Bangalore city. "In addition, we are also taking up construction of core ring road within the city, which will prevent vehicular traffic coming into the central business district."

Bangalore's infrastructural woes have been making headlines in recent times, and the downpour in the last few days have added to the problems on the road and traffic management fronts.

The chief minister said the government was doing its best to improve the city's infrastructure, both in the short-term and in the long-term.

According to him, a project report has been prepared for upgrading 38 roads involving 492 km at a cost of Rs 516 crore. "We will be seeking the assistance of Government of India to implement this project," he said.

Singh said the State Government has also sanctioned Rs 491 crore hi-tech city project exclusively to house IT projects in the city.
