Deccan Herald

The Bangalore Mahanagara Palike has geared itself up to meet emergencies arising out of incessant rainfall in the City. Three extra control points with vehicles, men and materials, one in each zone, in addition to the existing four control rooms have been opened to attend to any emergency. All senior officials and the Commissioner will monitor the relief operations round the clock. An officer has been appointed to monitor the control rooms and control points. Extra vehicle and a mounted 100 KVA capacity generator van for each zone has been hired to help rescue operations during nights in BMP as well as in a few CMC areas. The control rooms will also have an extra portable generator to be used in emergency situations.

BMP has identified 21 relief centres to temporarily rehabilitate persons displaced due to inundation of their houses. Arrangements have been made to accommodate up to 5,300 people in these centres. Steps have also been taken to provide food, clothing and emergency medical care to the persons housed in these centres. The BWSSB has been asked to provide extra tankers for drinking water.

BMP has also made special arrangements to lift heavy duty 30 hp pumps from Chennai to pump out water from inundated areas. BMP’s Health Department has taken up the task of spraying anti-malarial disinfectants at places where rain water is stagnant and steps have been taken to purchase adequate chlorine and halogen tablets. A help desk at all BMP health centres has been opened.
