Task forces set up for rain-hit areas in B’lore

The State government has constituted task forces in the rain affected City Municipal Councils (CMCs), Town Municipal Councils (TMCs) and the Assembly segments, Primary and Secondary Education Minister R Ramalinga Reddy said on Tuesday.

Each of the rain affected CMC or TMC or Assembly constituency will have a separate task force. The task force is headed by an assistant commissioner of police and comprises officials of Bescom, health department, Mr Reddy told reporters.

The task will oversee the relief operations in the affected areas. In addition, a round-the-clock control room has been set up in each of the affected regions. Bommanahalli, K R Puram, Yelahanka, Thanisandra are some of the severely affected regions.

The minister said that the Rs 30 crore sanctioned for Bangalore City will be utilised for undertaking rain relief measures.

Asked whether the services of military will be sought for restoration and rehabilitation work, Mr Reddy said that the Chief Minister will take a decision in this regard.

Measures

Mr Reddy said that a City legislators meeting will be convened on Wednesday or Thursday to discuss the rain relief measures.

The government, he said has chalked out emergency, short and long term rain relief measures. The emergency measures include providing food and health care to the affected people, desilting of drains. Under the short term measure, repair of roads and culverts will be taken up. The long term measures include linking of tanks to drains and curbing encroachments on drains. Mayor R Narayanaswamy, who was also present said that storm water re-modelling work had commenced in City.
