A breather for clogged Marathahalli road

A breather for clogged Marathahalli road
The Times of India

Bangalore: The crammed and perennially clogged Marathahalli main road will get a new lease of life shortly. The BDA is all set to upgrade, augment and widen the stretch from HAL to Kundalahalli and has invited tenders for the project.

The chaotic 5.6 km stretch is the weakest link to the commuters travelling towards Whitefield, particularly the Road Over Bridge (ROB) at Marathahalli over Salem railway line which is narrow. The road is in a bad condition, is narrow at some places and is unable to handle the heavy traffic load.

BDA commissioner M N Vidyashankar told the Sunday Times of India that the stretch would to be widened to four-lane with a central median and pavements. The road over bridge (ROB) portion would be handled by the railways and RITES has already started designing the plan for the bridge. The BDA will have to deposit Rs 72 lakh towards the construction of ROB to the railways. The ROB will also be widened to four-lanes.

The total project is estimated to cost Rs 6 crore and the road upgradation part would be completed within six months and the ROB in eight months.
