More developmental works soon: Mayor
Deccan Herald

The mayor stated that the works pertaining to roads will enable smooth flow of traffic at major junctions.

The Bangalore Mahanagara Palike will lay the foundation for construction of a Railway Over Bridge at Mathikere, a flyover at Yeshwanthpur and a subway at Malleswaram next month, Mayor R Narayanaswamy said here on Saturday. The objective is to ease traffic congestion in the north corridor of the City, he added.

Stating that this is the first time that the BMP was undertaking three major road works in an Assembly constituency, he said that the idea was to create facilities for smooth flow of traffic by clearing some of the major bottlenecks. This is happening thanks to the effort of Mr M R Seetharam, MLA, Malleswaram, he added. Announcing a tentative date for the foundation laying to these works as October 10, the Mayor said that the works are expected to be completed within 18 months.

The proposed Railway Over Bridge at Mathikere is to be constructed jointly by the BMP and the South Western Railways on a cost sharing basis.

The 450 m bridge estimated at Rs 18 crore will have four lanes, he explained. When ready, the bridge will help ease traffic on roads connected to Mathikere Main Road.

The flyover at Yeshwanthpur is to ease traffic coming from the national highways connected to this area as well as those heading out of Bangalore onto the highways.

The four-lane flyover, estimated at Rs 18 crore, is expected to be completed within 18 months.

The Sampige Road-Mahakavi Kuvempu Road faces acute traffic snarls to solve which a subway modelled on the Mekhri Circle Grade Separator, along with a diaphragm wall, has been designed. This will help easy movement and quicker change of lanes, the Mayor said, adding that the subway has been estimated at Rs 14 crore.

Once completed, the Yeshwanthpur flyover and the Malleswaram subway will become an important structure in the north corridor, which connects Central Bangalore to northern areas, he added.
