BENGALURU, July 10: Deep unbarricaded trenches, dug up roads, dust and noise have made the lives of people in Kadirenahalli miserable for over a year and there still doesn’t seem to be any escape from it all for them.
The delay in building an underpass at the Kadirenahalli road junction on outer ring road, has not only hit business of the shopkeepers in the area, but also caused commuters inconvenience as they now have to travel six times the distance they would have had to in the past, to merely reach the other end of the road.
Although work has been in progress for almost 15 months, it has still not been completed. The underpass has now been delayed by five months and is unlikely to be completed in the near future, going by an engineer working on it.
The Rs 28.72 crore project was started in March 2008, with a deadline of 10 months.
The underpass is expected to be 356 meters long and 16.5 meters wide.
“We got the permission to cut over 30 trees for the project only in August 2008. Also the terrain is rocky and chemical blasting was delayed because the people were afraid their houses would develop cracks as a result. We were able to start blasting only in February 2009,” says an engineer.
Thirty per cent of the work has been completed, but 50 per cent of the land required.
