BANGALORE: The committee to look into trifurcation of Bangalore University has recommended setting aside some land from the soon to be shifted race course (Bangalore Turf Club) for one of the three universities.
The Dr N Rudraiah Committee, which submitted its report to Higher Education Minister Aravind Limbavali on Friday, has recommended that around 20 acres of land from the race course and another 5 to 10 acres from the Freedom Park should be set aside for setting up the Bangalore Central University. The panel has also recommended that the land used by Cauvery guest house and BMC house should also be allotted to Bangalore Central University.
The panel has also recommended splitting Bangalore University into three — Bangalore North, Bangalore Central and Bangalore South — universities. The Outer Ring Road is being used as the boundary to decide how the colleges will be allotted to each university.
Bangalore North
The committee has recommended that the BU-North should be located in a temporary building until land has been identified for it. The line joining Tumkur Road and Hosur Road through Hebbal-Sarjapur Road on the ORR will be used to demarcate colleges under BU-North university. Colleges located outside this part of the ORR, along with those in Hoskote, Devanahalli, Whitefield, Varthur, Kolar district and Chikballapur district will be part of BU-North university.
Bangalore Central
The university will be headquartered at the Central College campus. The committee has recommended that this university should be renamed as Bangalore International University, with advanced courses and research on nano-technology, smart technology, nuclear and aerospace engineering being conducted here. Colleges lying inside the ORR will be retained in BU-Central.
Bangalore South
The varsity will be headquartered at Jnanabharathi campus. Colleges in Magadi, Channapatna, Kanakapura, Ramanagar district, Nelamangala taluk, Banashankari, Jayanagar and Indiranagar will be included in Bangalore-South University.
